About Us

Home pantries foster the image of food available to nourish hungry family members. It is hard to believe that, in this day and age, families in the affluent Fox Valley are experiencing hunger, but it is true.

Households with limited resources often must choose between paying their rent and feeding their families. Food assistance can prevent the tragedy of homelessness for people who find themselves in the position of having to make this choice.

Since 1981, concerned citizens in the Aurora area have attempted to provide canned goods and other groceries to persons in need of food assistance. That movement, known as the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry, has seen substantial increases in the requests from year to year.

Those who receive food include the unemployed, families and single parents caring for children, seniors on fixed incomes, persons with disabilities or chronic illness, victims of violence and emergency situations, employed individuals who need a supplement, or anyone who cannot afford to purchase enough food to adequately meet their nutritional needs.

The Pantry distributes food on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, from 11am to 2pm. Those needing food may visit the Pantry one time each week. For further information about distribution, please contact the Pantry office at (630)897-2127.

The food distributed by the Pantry is obtained through community food drives and donations from individuals, businesses and organizations, and purchased with monetary donations and grants that the Pantry receives. Anyone interested in conducting a food drive should contact the Pantry.

Food donations are accepted at the Pantry office at 1110 Jericho Road, Aurora, from 8 am to 3pm or by appointment.

Monetary donations can be made online through our website by clicking on the DONATE NOW link below or sent to the Pantry at P.O. Box 2602, Aurora,IL 60507.

Serving America Since 1928

In 1928, two men shared a dream of providing a quality insurance product at a reasonable price. In the decades that followed we’ve grown and adapted to meet the changing needs of Americans. But one constant has remained: We have an unwavering commitment to uphold our founding ideals to provide industry-leading products and first-rate services to the customers we’re privileged to serve.

Different Eras, Same Exceptional Service

Farmers not only prides itself on helping you plan wisely for the unexpected, but also on helping restore order when it occurs, so you can keep moving along the road of your life’s plans.

In 1959 a Farmers customer wrote us a letter of surprised gratitude when his car battery was replaced just an hour after it was stolen. A letter from a couple in 2002 wrote that their Farmers agent and Claims Adjuster “were exceptional in their handling of our grief, what we needed to do, and helpful in many other ways.” That same year, when Hurricane Rita struck Beaumont, Texas, Farmers sent 300 agents to assess damages while policy holders were evacuated. Farmers also donated $100,000 for the city’s emergency operations center and two megawatt generators that restored power to Beaumont. Whatever year or decade a disaster occurs, you can count on us to be there for you.

Today, the companies comprising the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies make up one of the country's largest insurers of vehicles, homes and small businesses and provide a wide range of other insurance and financial services products.

Farmers is proud to serve more than 10 million households with more than 20 million individual policies across all 50 states through the efforts of over 50,000 exclusive and independent agents and nearly 24,000 employees.

The Farmers Exchanges are three reciprocal insurers (Farmers Insurance Exchange, Fire Insurance Exchange and Truck Insurance Exchange) owned by their policyholders, and together with their subsidiaries and affiliates comprise the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies. Farmers Group, Inc. and its subsidiaries, in their capacity as attorneys-in-fact, provide administrative and management services to the Farmers Exchanges.

Founded in 1980, St. Augustine College is an independent college, with four educational centers in the Chicago area and one in Aurora. It is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Our institution maintains modern facilities, the latest instructional materials, highly qualified faculty and a nurturing environment with a personal touch. We offer excellent academic programs that include a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and a wide range of Associate Degrees and Career Certificates that prepare you for successful employment or to transfer to a four year university to complete a Bachelor Degrees.

We accommodate the needs of traditional and working students by offering day, evening and Saturday classes and providing child care services.

Mission & History

The first permanent European settlement in this country, in Florida, was named St. Augustine and was founded by Pedro Menendez de Aviles on September 8, 1565, fifty years before the landing of the Pilgrims in New England.  Just as these Spanish settlers were pioneers in their time, so are the founders of St. Augustine College in Chicago: pioneers in bilingual (dual-language) higher education.  The College is also named after Bishop Augustine of Hippo, an educator and philosopher whose teachings helped to shape modern thought.

History

On October 7, 1980, the Illinois State Board of Higher Education granted operating authority to the first bilingual institution of higher education in Illinois:  St. Augustine College.  This educational setting is unique in Illinois, and one of a few in the country.  It came into existence as a result of years of work, observation, and research, and is based on more than ten years of community work performed by the Spanish Episcopal Services, an educational agency that was created under the auspices of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago by Father Carlos A. Plazas, Ph. D., in 1970.

The College founders reacted to observation and research that indicated that a large number of Hispanic adults, because of specific circumstances, could avail themselves of dual-language (bilingual) academic and vocational career training.  These findings also indicated that many Hispanic adults were capable of actively participating in four-year degree programs, but needed educational assistance to be able to compete at this level of education.  Since there were no institutions of higher education to respond to these educational needs and provide opportunities for dual-language learning, the Board of Directors of Spanish Episcopal Services elected to support the formation of St. Augustine College.

Mission

St. Augustine College is an independent, bilingual (dual-language) institution of higher education created under the auspices of the Episcopal Diocese to make the American system of higher education accessible to a diverse student population with emphasis on those of Hispanic descent; to strengthen ethnic identity; to reinforce cultural interaction; and to build a bridge to fill cultural, educational, and socio-economic gaps.

Inner Harmony Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine is dedicated to helping you live a healthy and happy life. I believe that everyone can and should be pain free, energetic, and joyous throughout his or her whole life. I strive to make this happen through gentle, compassionate care. My offices are beautiful and peaceful, and give my patients a sense of restoration and rejuvenation.

My strategy for helping you feel great is to use a stair step approach.

  1. First I treat any pain, because if you have pain then you cannot have a good quality of life. This includes headaches, sciatica, neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, even internal pain.
  2. Then I also treat stress. In our busy world we are all surrounded by stressful situations that can cause many health problems. But stress is always a two edged sword–stress is what the world throws at you but it is also how you respond to the world. Acupuncture can help you respond in more healthy ways.
  3. Next I work to treat chronic illnesses. Many of my patients have reduced their blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels while under my care.
  4. And the final step on the stairway to great health is to bring joy into your life with such things as more energy, better sleep, weight loss, and better moods.
