March 15 to April 30, 2015 is a Special Enrollment Period for Tax Issues. File your taxes, pay a penalty/file an exemption if you did not have health insurance in 2014, and make an appointment to see an enrollment counselor.
Note that Illinois residents may apply for Medicaid at any time during the year and special enrollment periods may be granted throughout the year to apply for Marketplace insurance following life-changing events, such as loss of employment. Please note that for 2015 coverage, the online application will be available through the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP). Small employers can still obtain insurance by using an agent, broker or insurance company that offers plans through SHOP. If you meet certain requirements, you may be eligible to claim a tax credit in 2014 or 2015, but only if you enroll through SHOP.
